When I was young, it was all about the Benjamins… Sorry, wrong “B”. It was all about B Boys… throwing windmills, beatboxing and rapping. Then that went out of fashion but now it’s back. Some other versions of break dance have emerged too (Boogaloo, popping, C walk, Krump)…but it’s pretty much the same family. Nothing groundbreakingly new…
Then music-wise, I grew up with Ragga, Dancehall, Rap, Zouk and Zouk love… Now it’s Reggaeton, Garage, Hip Hop, Kizomba, Cabo, Candy Zouk… But I do struggle to see any striking difference in the genres of yesteryear and today.
And of course, remixes themselves are rife. So many songs use old tunes. Rihanna’s SOS, Sean Kingston’s Beautiful Girls, JLS’ The club is alive come to mind...Hmmmm…All that was worth discovering has alreday been discovered it seems…Or has it? Could we still come up with a truly fresh yet uplifting musical genre? Can originality be commercially viable? Can sheer passion for good music reclaim the music industry??
Pfff....Too much thinking. Exhausted. Don't care. Need lie down.
Peace out
;P
